Pediatric Teeth Extractions

In Fullerton

We understand that extractions can be scary for little ones. Pulling your child’s tooth is always the dentist’s last resort when restoring their smile. Our compassionate team and variety of sedation options are here to make your child’s extraction as painless as possible, so they can get back to thriving health.

Has your child complained about tooth pain that doesn’t go faway? If their tooth can’t be preserved with a restoration, it may need to be extracted. While having a tooth removed might seem scary at first, working with a trusted, caring pediatric dentist makes this experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Our kid-focused team at ChildsSmiles OC creates a warm, welcoming environment designed to turn potentially stressful procedures into manageable experiences that kids can confidently handle.

We believe in combining gentle care with the latest dental technology to help your child feel at ease from the moment they walk through our doors and give them the highest quality treatment available. From our entertaining waiting area to iPads and TVs in treatment rooms, we’ve thought of everything to help your child feel comfortable and even excited about their dental visit!

When May Your Child Need a Tooth Extraction?

While we do everything possible to preserve your child’s natural teeth with fillings, crowns, and other restorations, sometimes a tooth extraction becomes the best option for their overall health and comfort. Our team carefully evaluates each situation before recommending this treatment, which may be necessary in the following situations:

Severe Tooth Decay

Nearly 18% of kids aged six to eight have one or more primary teeth with untreated decay, making this a common concern among children. Severely decayed teeth that can’t be saved with fillings or crowns often need to be removed to prevent infection from spreading to other teeth or areas of the body. Similarly, teeth badly damaged from accidents or injuries may require extraction when repair simply isn’t possible.

Baby Teeth Removal

Sometimes, baby teeth need a little help making their exit. If they’re hanging around too long, they can block permanent teeth from coming in properly. We may remove one or more of your child’s baby teeth if they don’t fall out on their own and have the potential to cause future issues.

Orthodontics Preparation

During an orthodontic treatment, like braces or a palate expander, your child’s teeth will shift into the proper alignment. We may need to perform extractions to make room for all their teeth and ensure optimal results.

Wisdom teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth often become problematic for older children and teens when they can’t emerge normally through the gums. These impacted teeth frequently need removal to prevent pain, infection, and damage to neighboring teeth.

The Benefits of Tooth Extractions

Eliminate Their Pain And Discomfort

A severely damaged, decayed, or infected tooth can cause lots of pain for your child, and distract them from school, play, and their normal day-to-day life. After their tooth has been extracted at our office, they’ll no longer be in pain, and they can resume their daily routine without discomfort.

Prevent More Complications

If your child has an infected tooth, the infection could spread if it’s left untreated, which could result in a life-threatening condition called “sepsis.” Or, if your teen’s wisdom teeth aren’t growing properly, they could have a higher risk of tooth decay, gum disease, or even misalignment of their teeth. When necessary, extractions can help prevent some serious oral health complications.

Get Peace Of Mind

You don’t want to worry about your child’s oral health. And with proper care from a pediatric dentist, like an extraction, you won’t have to. Your child is in good hands at our office, and we’ll come up with a treatment plan to restore their smile and to protect their oral health as they grow up.

The Extraction Process

Cleaning & Numbing The Area

To begin the process, your child’s pediatric dentist will clean and numb the area to ensure your child doesn’t feel any pain or discomfort throughout the procedure.

Loosening & Extracting The Tooth

Your child’s dentist will use special tools to loosen the tooth in its socket. Once the ligaments connecting the tooth to the socket have been weakened, they will use dental forceps to grab the tooth tightly and pull it out.

Recovery & Aftercare

Next, your child’s dentist will clean up, sanitize, and suture the treatment area to ensure it heals properly. If your child needs multiple extractions, this process will be repeated. Once their appointment is over, their dentist will give you a set of recovery instructions. Make sure your child follows these closely so that they heal quickly, and avoid postoperative complications.
